Mr. Steve Christy, a fellow Rotarian and member of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, spoke at today's meeting. A longtime Tucsonan and community businessman, Steve elected to participate in local issues which support the community in a variety of ways. He pointed out and discussed several areas of concern: --- The deplorable conditions of our roads identifying this as an $800 million to $1 billion problem. The county is not presenting itself in a positive manner and pointing out there is a direct economic relationship between this issue and numerous others. --- Consideration of a new county budget with an aim to reduce the property tax burden. How to decrease the property tax rate in face of increasing property valuation. --- A "pay as you go" approach for a Capital Improvement Program. --- Asylum seeking and ongoing county initiatives such as migrant shelters. Recognizing these are federal government responsibilities and it is not the job of Pima County or Pima County taxpayers to be in the asylum seeking business with the corresponding diversion of funds to these activities. |
